Womens R1 (1)

  • It was an important game, as winning meant promotion to P3. The game was very enjoyable, hard and well-fought. Scores were locked at 1 all at full-time - so went to golden goal, and Petone scored in the second period. Goal scorer was Jodee and Player of the day was Sylvia.
Womens R1 (2)

  • The team drew 1 all with Naenae in a closely fought contest. After conceeding in the first half, Charlotte slotted an equaliser in a dominant second half display. The defence, featuring player of the day, Jules, managed ot shut down swift counter attacks.
Mens R1 (now P3)

  • A dominant performance gave us the win and promotion (back) to P3. One up at halftime broke their back and spurred us on put away another four, so we won 5 - 1. Goal scorers: Rob (2), Chris (2) and Mike. Matt was MOM with a solid line of defence, that created a number of attacking opporutnities.
Mens R2

  • Another example of how a quick passing game runs rings around an opposition and wins. Four in the first half and another two in the second sent a message to the rest of the grade on our intent for the season. MOM: Dan and thanks to Zac and Gaz for umpiring.
Mens R3

  • A win would mean promotion, but unfortunately that didn't happen, losing 0 - 3.

1 May updates:

Womens R1 (1)

  • Lost 0 - 3 to Northern at Elsdon. I fear this week's performance may well have been the victim of a post nupital hangover. Sadly our performance on Elsdon's green carpet would have been unlikely to attract the attention of a frog, let along a handsome prince.Northern proved to be a real test - like us they finished top of their pool and haveing been relgated from P3 last season, they no doubt had aspirations of returning there. The result possibly flattered them a little, but I think its fair to say we saved our worst game to date for the best team. However, in what was a scrappy performance there were periods of fine passing to create goal scoring opportunities, sadly all unconverted. The loss means we will play Petone next week, the stronger of the two bottom P3 teams. If we want to play P3, we'll need to lift our game. Player of the day was our lace clad princess, Jo, for her sterling work at the back sweeping up pretty much everything that came her way (there was plenty!).
Womens R1 (2)

  • The women's second team had a confident 3 - 1 win over Hutt at Elsdon. Fau's midfield energy and Helen's confidence down the left sideline earned them joint player of the day. Goals to Keryn, Annette and Stacey have left everyone in the team confident to make a real charge in the grade.
Mens R1

  • Won 4 - 1. Hutt came at us with some creative hockey, making our defence scramble for the majority of the half. We scored first, but they soon evened it up, so we were locked up at half-time. A constructive talk mean we came out with vigour and netted three more. Goals from Player of the day Toby (2), Chris and Cole. A special mention to Rufus as an impact player off the bench.
Mens R2

  • Won 5 - 1, and returned to the style of passing hockey that escpaed us in the previous playoff game. Harbour City were on defence from the outset. It took 25 minutes and a few opporutnties for us to zero in on target - but three inside 10 minutes broke their back. Despite no one on the bench, we continued to press and grabbed another before the heat caught up with us and they had the numbers with a counter attack to score. We finished them off with the fifth before a string of short corners to practice. It drew their keeper to put on a fine performance (the woodwork was a great second keeper as well) and it would have been double digits without him. Player of the day, Jack had great vision and created countless opportunities - let it continue.
Mens R3

  • Won 2 - 1.

17 April updates

Women's R1 (1)

  • YWCA won a hard fought match against Naenae, 2-0 with goals scored by Brony and Dee. Player of the day was Karen for her excellent attacking work, partciularly in the circle depsite being heavily marked.

Women's R1 (2)

  • Win by default to YWCA (5-0) and ensures the team stays in R1 for 2011.

Men's R1

  • Y-dub won 4 - 3 in overtime (required for grading results) against Kapiti. They scored early putting us on the back foot. Described as the best team performance of the year, we go tup 3 - 1. Kapiti managed to pull it back to 3 all at full time. In the thenth minute of overtime with seven on the turf, Chris (man of the match) managed to dove a goal home. Goal scorers: Chris (2), Mike and James M. Thanks to John for umpiring.
Men's R2

  • Y-dub lost 3-4 against Vic 4. After losing Gaz after 15 minutes with a lower leg problem (likely calf muscle tear), we railled and created a 2-0 lead through team work for the first, and then a short corner. A warm humid day and two umpires in their first game didn't help, and we lost our defensive structure in the second half with only 11 bodies to call on. Man of the match Jono managed to get up and down the turf and if he was creating opportunities, he was shutting them down. A vaulable lesson learnt at this time of year.

Men's R3

  • Y-dub drew with Petone 1 all, in a game that was there for the taking.

Updates from 2011 Grading:

Women's R1 (1)

  • 10 April: The Y-Dub women's 1 team beat Hutt 4-0. Goal scorers were Ange, Jodee and Keri (2). Player of the day was Leanne for creating a lot of space in the centre and attacking really well.

Women's R1 (2)

  • 10 April: The Y-Dub women's 2 team had a closely fouth loss in the weekend with the bounce of the ball on the Elsdon turf being th ediffereince between us and Harbour City in the 2 - 1 result. A player of the day performance from Stacey saw her land the goal from a cracking PC shot from Annette. A number of near misses have left the team optimistic that the result will be reversed next time.

Men's R1

  • 10 April: v Upper Hutt 2-2. We had anticipated a hard game this week and that's what we got. They put pressure on us early earning a PC, and with a solid shot converted, it put us on the back foot. We managed to come back with two goals from James M. Upper Hutt kept their heads up and equalised through another PC. Man of the match Neil Rossiter with a very strong defensive display. Thanks to Zac for umiring.

  • v Petone 5-0. We dominated first half scoring and held the majority of possession. We secured a complete victory with our keeper being a spectator and not touching the ball. Solid team work was dispalyed with great team work. Goal scorers: Hoff (2), Chris, James M and Tom. Man of the match - Tom M with a high work rate and creating countless opportunities. Many thanks to Bruce for umpiring.

  • v Naenae 5-0. We started off well scoring early but became the victim of strong counter attacks - but great work by the backs and halfs and solid keeper saves kept the lead. The game became frustrating with four strokes denied but the lead was extended, and a stroke given in the last few seconds. Goals: Andrew (Hoff) (2), Chris, James M and Rob. Man of the match - Kake with a solid defensive display. Thanks Nicki for umpiring.

Men's R2

  • 10 April v Northern. Won 3-0. On the day the more eager team pounced ont eh 50/50s and created a number of opportunities, helped by the midfield structuring play and running circles around their counterparts. Fantastic defence ensured a clean sheet and limited chances for the opposition. Jack had his hands full on D for most of the day and his outstanding effort earned him player of the day.

  • v Victoria 5. Won 1-0 on a dry bouncing turf. Final touches and more advantages would ahve increased the score which flattered the opposition. Chris was the player of the day, who shut down a numebr of counter attacks late in the game like a hare when legs were tiring.

  • v Harbour City. Won 7 - 1. Player of the day was Jono with a hat-trick, including a mid-air reverse hit for his third. Solid structure and short passing made simple work after the urf had 39mm of rain in the hour before the game started.

Men's R3

  • 9/10 April: BYE

  • v Eastern Hutt. Won 6-1.

  • v Upper Hutt. Lost 2 - 4.
